Outcome

A complete design for a web App

Brief

Preschool teachers are the ones in charge of planting the seed of knowledge in their students and they do it though engaging activities.

For this teachers would use printed materials to make their activities more attractive for their young students.

Preschool Planet
is a web application where teachers can create educational resources for their lesson plans.

The Problem

Teachers have to pay to download educational resources for their lesson plans that not always match their students needs.

The Goal

Create a wed design platform where preschool teachers can create personalised educational resources to support their lesson plan.

The approach

User interviews

Competitive and Comparative analysis

Discovery: Research & Analysis

I decided to run a series of interviews to better understand the potential users and how they use the different web applications to achieve their goal.

User Journey browsing for educational resources

Comparative Analysis

I was able to confirm that teachers use multiple online platforms to get the resources for their lesson plans.

However, according to the interviews and comparative analysis, teachers usually don’t get exactly the resource they want as most of the ones available don’t have the option to personalise the resource.

Design: Ideation & Sketching

Crazy 8’s ideation technique

Using the Crazy 8’s technique I came up with 8 different features ideas for the website layout and design.

Creating the storyboard helped me to understand the flow of the teacher interaction with the product.

Hi-Fi Prototyping

The prototype takes the User through the process of looking for the Educational Resource they need and the opportunity to edit and personalise the resource within the same platform

Test: Validation, Usability, Feedback

I recruited 5 Preschool Teachers to test the prototype and gave them the following set of instructions at the beginning of the test.

Usability Test

  • 100% of the participants liked the overall concept.
  • 100% of the participants found the Log In/ Sign In easy to do.
  • 80% of the participants found easily the 2 Printable assigned in the instructions.
  • 100% of the participants liked the online editor useful.
  • 100% of the participants found the navigation on the editor easy to follow.
  • 100% of the participants succeeded in create their own printable.

Results and Next Steps

The purpose of this project was to create a digital product that would simplify the way Preschool Teachers find resources to support their lesson plans.

Preschool Teachers found the Preschool Planet really useful as they were able to personalise the resources to fit their students needs.

I would like to take the project to the next step and create the actual website.

More to explore

An app to cope with eco-anxiety

I designed Ecoprint, a mobile app that helps users to take action against climate change by providing them with easy-to-follow daily tasks.

A simplified purchasing process

I helped redesign the Merchant & Product page at Giftano to help users go through the purchasing process in a much faster and enjoyable way.

An easier-to-use marketplace

Through an UX Audit of Giftano Marketplace I was able to identify and come up with solutions for a more intuitive shopping experience.
